Press Release
(Brussels, Belgium, July 2007)

Over the last few years, FEMYSO has worked in close relationship with the Council of Europe. Through our various fields of action and expertise, we have developed a relationship based on mutual trust in different projects. In this way, we have been able to set up a partnership and benefit from it in our exchanges. We are involved in various issues pertaining to young Europeans and we have put forward the expectations of young European Muslims in projects such as:

Being the first organisation to be consulted on a regular basis in Europe for issues regarding young Muslims;
Member of the Advisory Council and the Joint Council on Youth at the Council of Europe;
Member of the European Steering Group for the Campaign on Diversity,Participation and Human Rights (“All Different, All Equal” – Council of Europe);
Participatory status of NGOs with the Council of Europe

Indeed, as our former president Khallad Swaid once said: “There can be no other option for us than our work and involvement in existing structures in order to highlight our constructive ideas with citizens in tomorrow’s Europe”.

As part of our FEMYSO’s Cultural Festival “Express your creativity”, we are pleased to announce the patronage of His Excellency M. Terry Davis, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

“What does Europe mean to you?” is the theme of the first European art competition organised by FEMYSO. Young artists aged 15 to 30 years old are invited to develop their ideas on Europe and submit their work between the 15th April and the 15th October. Thanks to this competition, FEMYSO wants to promote universal values of tolerance, peace and friendship between the people.

Candidates can choose to compete in one of the five following disciplines:
-       Music,
-       Films (short films),
-       Tajweed (recitation of the Koran),
-       Visual Arts (calligraphy, photography, graphic arts, etc.)
-       Short story writing

A professional jury will select the winners in each discipline. The selected candidates will then be invited to participate in the Festival in Brussels on the 4th, 5th and 6th of November 2007.
